Administrative Update
From the Administrator’s Desk…
Welcome to out first newsletter! Our conservation district is managed by seven elected members and one associate member. They are a group of local citizens who are concerned about the quality and use of Worcester County’s soil, water and other natural resources. I would like thank them for volunteering their time and efforts throughout the year. Without their help and energy, our service and assistance to communities and landowners would not be possible, especially during these challenging times.
Recently, our board members discussed and defined a list of top resource priorities within the Worcester County area to ensure that Natural Resource and Conservation Service (NRCS) programs, delivery and ranking process is consistent with local needs. A more detailed breakdown of these priorities can be found under the Updates tab, above.
We would like to thank our recently retired board Chairperson, Joe Smith, for his dedication and energy as he served in this role for several years. He stays on as a district supervisor while Tristan Lundgren, another strong supporter and worker for the district has moved in place as Chairman. We welcome Walter Albarran to the Holden office. Walter is here from the NRCS office in Gettysburg Pennsylvania and brings valuable experience and expertise to the Mass State Conservation team.

Asian Long Horn Beetle (ALB)
The ALB is an invasive insect… Indicators that show a tree might have an ALB infestation include: dead leaves that appear too soon, excessive sawdust around tree bases and tree crotches, excessive oozing sap, and random holes measuring approximately 3/8 of an inch in diameter (about the size of a dime).
